Isometric view of the Insane Train maglev vehicle traveling through forest terrain
The rails shape each route; the challenge comes from how speed, grade, elevation, and route choice meet.
The premise

Rails define the route. Terrain changes the approach.

Insane Train centers movement on a connected rail network. Forks, merges, and crossings turn route choice into route commitment, while transfers between rails and changes in elevation allow momentum carried through one path to shape the approach to the next.

The landscape is part of the traversal rather than scenery around it. Grades and drops change how momentum builds or falls away, while each biome uses its own contours to create a distinct set of navigation challenges.

Design focus

Movement written into the terrain

Rail-bound movement

The vehicle follows the rail network, putting the emphasis on timing, control, route commitment, and how momentum is carried forward.

Grades and elevation

Slopes, rises, and drops change the shape of traversal. Elevation is a gameplay condition, not a backdrop.

Biomes as courses

Each biome uses its terrain language to introduce distinct grades, contours, and navigation challenges.
